"DEAR DIARY"...Adventures in Blackpool!

Well, we're off to the airport. It was tight, but we finally managed to pack what we needed for our trip. We always seem to pack more clothes than we need -- but with eight days and nights, it seems to be inevitable.

Unfortunately, because we had booked later, we fly into London and then to Manchester airport. Then it's about a 45 minute taxi/cab ride from Manchester to Blackpool -- had to call the taxi company to arrange ahead of time as so many people will be flying in. We also got a better rate for a "round-trip" fare.

Because this is England, everyone drives on the "left" side of the road. ARGHHH!!! Actually, there is a funny story that the reason why Ballroom dancers dance counter-clockwise around the floor is because of the English, who would drive that way. Don't know if this is fact or fiction, but seems to make some sense!

We are really looking forward to seeing the grand ballroom at the Winter Gardens that holds so much tradition, as well as some relatives that we will be visiting -- aunts/uncles who live near Manchester. Even though the grand ballroom is so magnificent, during other times of the year, they hold trade shows. In fact, there is a major machinery show where companies throughout England display heavy machinery inside the hall. But during Blackpool week, the hall with its many balconies that soar to the roof-top chandeliers will once again transform to the elegant venue which for over 75 years, has crowned many champions, made legends of mortals, and inspired new generations of ballroom dancers and athletes to pursue excellence in DanceSport.

Let the Sport of Dance begin! :-))
